Tricks to Stop Hiccups
Hiccups are an involuntary contraction of the diaphragm, the sheet of muscle that separates the chest from the abdominal cavity and plays an important role in breathing. With hiccups, the normally smooth function of this muscle is short circuited by some type of irritation, and the muscle goes into spasm. As the diaphragm moves downwards, the person hiccuping inhales quickly, and the vocal cords snap shut across the throat, That's what causes the 'hic'.
Others causes are gulping air, carbonated drinks, indigestion; also eating on the run or eating while laughing and talking results in hiccups and no reason at all that we know of.
Whilst everyone has their own idea about curing hiccups, here are some folk cures that work.
Take a deep breath and count to 30.
Try a spoonful of sugar under your tongue.
Chew some papaya or pineapple; digestive problems, including heartburn, can aggravate hiccups.
Plug your ears and drink up. It was suggested to plug both ears with you fingers, then drink a glass of water through a straw.
I always take a teaspoon of vinegar and have had some success, although I haven't had hiccups for quite a while and it is said that a teaspoon of vinegar a day is very good for you.

Improvement of Vision for Over 45s
What next will we be able to renew?
I read in the The Sunday Mail while becoming quite anxious about a new laser procedure involving removal of the eye's natural lens. I sort of cringed, even though I would love to throw away my glasses forever. The thought of losing my natural lens was one of horror. I guess when one became used to the thought it might become more reasonable.
The natural lens is the part which becomes cloudy and can also becomes a cataract.
'Specifically powered to provide the desired outcome, the artificial lens improves reading or distance vision,' Dr Howes said.
Most cases experience visual recovery fast and dramatic with minimal discomfort and a speedy return to work. Sounds fantastic!
It is performed by highly skilled surgeons at The Laservision Centre and the procedure is renowned for its successful outcomes and satisfied patients. The centre also offers a cost-free consultation - very inviting!
Just a week ago I also read in Herbs for Health Booklet about bilberries (also known as blueberries) giving greater vision to fighter pilots who ate bilberry jam during World War 11. Military officers discovered this happening. There have been other studies giving similar results, improved visual acuity, quicker adjustment to darkness and faster restoration of vision after exposure to glare.
Bilberry extract plus vitamin E stopped the progression of cataracts in a whopping 97% of patients treated. That is something I would like to see.

Nature produces great and wonderful opportunities for us to take huge advantage of what is available. There many different environmentally friendly products which are safe for humans and pets which have a variety of different activities. There safe fats, soap, hair shampoos, detergents and toilet paper. The list goes on:
One which we perhaps should all consider is hair colour without ammonia. There are many products out there which do the job very well which are obtainable at Health Food Stores or the Natural Product Pharmacies.
White vinegar, an acid liquid, is effective for wiping away mildew from walls or shower curtains.
It removes stickers from glass, wood and china. Also it soften clothes by adding it to the rinse cycle and amazingly removes stubborn tannin stains from teapots and cups.

Health to the Heart - Oats
Wake up to oats is the call to Australians.
Heart health is in your hands. Australia's number one killer is heart disease. Each year, 55,000 people die from it - more than the combined number of deaths caused by cancer, AIDS and road accidents- and 2.3 million Australians live with it. Don't become a statistic!
Oats the wonder grain is an essential part of a balanced, heart-healthy diet, according to world research, which now recognises their role in helping prevent heart disease.
Breakfasts is the most important meal of the day and oats are the perfect menu choice, especially during winter when a steaming bowl of porridge will banish those early morning chills. Oats have one of the highest levels of water-soluble fibre called beta-glucan. This fibre binds to fats, including cholesterol, in the digestive system, reducing their uptake into the body. The beta-glucan is then excreted, carrying cholesterol with it and so reducing blood cholesterol, one of the major risk factors of heart disease. To obtain the recommended daily intake of beta-glucan you need to eat just 2/3 cup of rolled oats. While you are taking care of your heart, your overall wellbeing also will benefit from the eight vitamins and numerous minerals in oats.
